To Individuals Registering for Fingerprinting for Handgun Permits
These are the new simplified directions on how to get registered for fingerprints!
Step 1 – Go to the local Highway Patrol station (Driver License Testing Center)
and apply for your permit with the State of Tennessee.
They will give you an ORI number along with a receipt.
Bring the following items:
- $115.00 in cash only
- a certified copy of your birth certificate or a U.S. Passport
- photo ID
Step 2 -Go to www.tennessee.cogentid.com
Step 3- Under the heading of “Registration” click on the link “Register Online”
Step 4- Fill out the required fields (yellow boxes are mandatory)
Step 5- Enter:
- ORI Number
- Transaction type (which is HG-Handgun Carry Permit)
- Payment type (Agency)
Then complete the Personal Information below.
Step 6- When finished filling out all required boxes, click “Next”.
Step 7- The boxes surrounding your information will disappear and you will have one more opportunity to check your information. Be sure it is all correct-especially your Social Security Number. If something is not correct click “Cancel” then fix the problem.
Step 8- If everything is correct, click “Submit”. After clicking “Submit” you will receive a 6 digit confirmation number. Print it out or write it down. We won’t need it for fingerprinting purposes, but keep it just in case.
After completing step 8, If you would like to check and see if you are in the system: Under the “Registration” heading click on link “Registration Status”. Then enter in your Date of Birth and SSN, then click “Submit”. It will tell you if you are in the system and ready to be fingerprinted.
Step 9- Come to RangeUSA and get fingerprinted.
After completing Step 8, you can repeat Steps 2 – 4 to see if you are “in the system”. But, instead of clicking on “Schedule Applicant” (Step 5), you will click on “Display Schedule Applicants”. This is not a necessary step, but you might want to check before you make a special trip to RangeUSA
