Step 1 – Complete the Security Guard Application that you received from Range USA, Inc. Be sure to include your photographs, the appropriate fees, and be sure to have the application notarized. Do not include payment for your fingerprints when you send in the application and photographs. Instead of paying the Department of Commerce and Insurance for processing your fingerprints the “old fashioned – ink and paper” way, you will be paying Cogent Systems to have them processed the modern way – using computers and scanners.

Step 2 – Go to www.tbibackgrounds.com.

Step 3 – Click on “Tennessee Applicant Processing System (TAPS) – Schedule Applicants”.

Step 4 – Enter the ORI # (TN920120Z) and Password (Z021029NT).

Step 5 – Click on link “Click here to schedule all applicants”.

Step 6 – Under “Registration”, click on the link which says “Register Online”.

Step 7 – Fill out required fields (the yellow boxes are required).

Step 8 – When finished filling out all required boxes, click “Next”. You will then have the opportunity to check all your information. Be sure it is all correct – especially your Social Security Number! If something is not correct, click “Cancel” and then fix the problem. If everything is correct, click “Submit”.

Step 9 – After clicking “Submit”, you will receive a 5 digit conformation number. Print it out or write it down. We won’t need it for fingerprinting purposes, but keep it just in case.

Step 10 – Once you have successfully completed your information and received a conformation number, wait 24 hours and then come to Range USA for fingerprinting. Bring a photo ID and payment for your fingerprinting fees. The cost of the fingerprints is $48.00. We only accept CASHIER’S CHECKS or MONEY ORDERS made payable to “COGENT SYSTEMS”. (Basically, instead of paying the Department of Commerce & Insurance $60.00 to have your prints processed the “old fashioned” way, you are paying Cogent Systems $48.00 to do it via the computer. We recommend the electronic method. Not only is it cheaper, but, it is faster and cleaner, you get the results back much sooner, and the prints are “readable” every time – all of which can’t be said about the ink and paper method.)

After completing Step 8, you can repeat Steps 2 – 4 to see if you are “in the system”. But, instead of clicking on “Schedule Applicant” (Step 5), you will click on “Display Schedule Applicants”. This is not a necessary step, but you might want to check before you make a special trip to Range USA.
