Course description: Yes, this class really is free! This is a basic, hands-on class on how to properly clean your firearm. A clean and maintained firearm is essential to its long life and functional reliability. While the owners’ manuals are a great resource, they lack the detail you need to clean your firearm. You’ll learn the materials needed, what to do before you clean, and how often it should be done. An instructor will walk you through disassembling your gun, how to clean it step-by-step, and how to reassemble it. This is a great class for someone who wants to know how to properly clean and maintain their firearm and to protect their investment – an investment their life just might depend upon.

Course description: Yes, this class really is free! This is a basic class on how to carry your firearm. There are many ways you can carry, and many places on your body. Many of the options you may not know about, so this class is your chance to gather the information you need to make the best decision. This class is for you if you do not own a holster yet, if you have one that is not right for you, if you have several and are tired of spending money on items that just are not right for you, or if you want to be more informed on the ways you can carry a firearm. An instructor will walk you through the options. The items will be on-hand so you can handle them and in some cases try them on to help you decide the best carry option(s) for you. This is a great class for someone who wants to know the many possibilities on how to carry a firearm.

Handgun Evaluation

REQUIRED Equipment: None.
Course description: A handgun evaluation offers you the opportunity to try different handguns and calibers. Attending this class will help you narrow down the options, if not choose a suitable handgun for you. This is not an Introduction to Handguns class. Firearm safety and basic firearm knowledge are required for this course. If you have not attended Introduction to Handguns, or the permit class you need special permission to attend this class. During the class we will review the fundamentals, then you will test fire a variety of handguns (revolvers and semi-automatics in various calibers). An instructor will be with you to insure you practice safety, focus on the fundamentals of shooting, give you pointers to help you build good habits, and help you in your handgun selection process. You will rate and comment on each handgun, so that you will leave with the information needed in order to make the most informed decision about which handgun is right for you. Handguns and ammunition are provided.

Course description: Home invasions are on the rise across the country! If you are concerned with becoming a victim of home invasion, then home defense is the course for you! First, choose your home defense firearm: handgun, shotgun, or carbine rifle. Then learn how to defend your home, yourself, and your loved ones! You will learn techniques to strengthen your home and skills that will help you, should a home invasion occur. You will experience new drills, and scenarios focused on home defense with a firearm. These skills are best learned and practiced in a safe environment, with a knowledgeable and qualified instructor. All the skills taught in this class will help you prepare for a home defense situation.

REQUIRED Equipment: * Quality, fully functional handgun (defensive caliber required .380 or higher; No .22, .25. or .32 calibers allowed)
* Minimum of 3 magazines
* Minimum of 5 dummy rounds in your caliber
* 250 rounds of ammunition (“factory new” recommended)

Course description: In this course, our highly trained and experienced instructors will take your gun handling and marksmanship skills to the next level! After a brief safety portion, the rest of this class is spent on the range. This class will work on stance, sight picture, grip, breathing, trigger control, shot placement and grouping. We will show you how to perform various reloading methods, clear different types of misfires and jams, and be more accurate with the shots you fire. Before coming to this class, you should know how to load, unload, and shoot your firearm and be knowledgeable of firearm safety rules. You will be a better semi-auto marksman/woman after taking this class and your small groupings will prove it. You will come away from this class feeling more comfortable handling your gun and ready to advance to Self-Defense Handgun Level 1.

Course description: This course is designed for the individual with little or no carbine rifle experience. In this class you will learn to use your rifle safely and effectively. This is a great opportunity for a beginner to ask questions, get answers, and learn in a non-threatening environment. All rifle (.223 or handgun caliber) ammunition is provided for this class and is included in the tuition. You will learn:

* Features and functions of a carbine rifle
* Accessory selection such as optic choices
* How to load and unload
* Fundamental skills needed to fire a rifle

There will be both classroom and range time in this course. That’s right! Our highly skilled instructors will help you put the classroom knowledge to use on the range and practice the fundamental skills used to fire a rifle.

Introduction to Handguns

REQUIRED Equipment: No equipment is required for this class. However, if you currently own a firearm and want to take this class in order to become more familiar with that particular firearm, we encourage you to bring it.
Course description: This course is intended for the individual with little or no firearms experience at all. There is not a great deal of range time in this class. This class is designed to set the groundwork for safe pistol handling. This class will teach you all the basics, from handgun cleaning to definitions of terms to explaining the difference between a revolver and a semi-automatic. This is a great opportunity for a beginner to ask questions, get answers, and learn in a non-threatening environment. This will be a very FUN class. There will be some time for some one-on-one instruction and if you want to, there will be some time on the range to shoot a revolver and semi-automatic that you had learned about in the class (however, you will not be forced to shoot if you are not ready!) The successful completion of this course will give you the basic foundation to advance through all the other classes Range USA University has to offer.

All shotgun ammunition is provided for this class and is included in the tuition. You will learn:

* Features and functions of a shotgun
* Types of shotgun ammunition
* How to select ammunition
* How to load and unload
* Fundamental skills needed to fire a shotgun

There will be both classroom and range time in this course. That’s right! Our highly skilled instructors will help you put the classroom knowledge to use on the range giving you the confidence you need to use your shotgun as a home defense weapon.

Legal Update for Tennessee Handgun Carry Permit

Course description: Are you up-to-date on the legal aspects of carrying a handgun in Tennessee? Do you know the latest laws for using a handgun in self-defense? Are you familiar with all the locations where carrying a handgun is prohibited? If you answered “no” to any of those questions the legal update class is for you! This class will update you on the Tennessee laws pertaining to carrying a firearm. You will learn about the latest changes in the laws, review the legal responsibilities of carrying a handgun in TN, and review the prohibited locations. You can also have all your TN legal questions regarding the laws answered! In addition, you will receive the latest handouts on the TN laws for self-defense. This is a great class for anyone who has their permit and did not stay updated on the TN laws – from someone who has had it many years, to someone who has had it only a year. This class also applies to those who have an out- of-state permit or to someone who is thinking about applying for their permit, and would first like to understand the laws.

Marksmanship

REQUIRED Equipment: * A functional handgun or a rental is available (if a rental is used, the ammunition must be purchased from Range USA)
* Approximately 200 rounds of ammunition (“factory new” recommended)
* Comfortable clothes and shoes
Course description: This course will help improve your marksmanship skills. If you need to become a better shot, this is a great class for you. This is NOT an “Introduction to Handguns” type class. You must know how to load, unload, and shoot your firearm. You must also be comfortable with your firearm or firearms in general. You may have just taken the Introduction to Handguns class at Range USA and feel that you need more practice with an instructor before you proceed to the Tennessee Permit Class. Or, you may have just taken the Youth Safety & Marksmanship class for 11-16 year olds and you’re ready to build on the fundamentals learned in that class. This course incorporates several drills, including live and dry fire, to help you to become a better pistol marksman. This class will also work on stance, sight picture, grip, breathing, trigger control, and shot placement. You will come away from this class feeling more comfortable handling your gun, greater confidence in your ability to shoot accurately.

REQUIRED Equipment: A written test is required on the use and liabilities for each weapon and a certification card will be issued after completion.
Course description: Civilians: You may carry chemical spray and/or a Taser though training will better prepare you should you have to use it. In order to carry an impact weapon (baton) you must be certified.

Security Guards: The Tennessee Department of Commerce & Insurance states that with proper certification, an unarmed or armed security officer/guard may carry other types of weapons. Prior to carrying a baton, chemical spray, and/or stun gun a security guard must complete a minimum of four hours of training administered by a trainer who has been certified by the Commissioner in the proper use of that weapon and the liabilities associated with it.

Certifications:

Chemical Spray 4 hours $40
To be certified with this weapon each security guard will be sprayed with OC spray (optional for civilians)
Bring an old shirt and an old towel

Impact Weapon 4 hours $40
Wear comfortable shoes and clothes (long pants)
Bring baton or night stick if available
A training baton will be provided for use during the class

Stun Guns 4 hours $100
Each student will fire a cartridge from a Taser (the cartridge, Taser, and holster will be provided for use during the class)
Exposure to the Taser is voluntary

P.A.C.T. (Personal Assault Combat Training)

REQUIRED Equipment: * Comfortable loose-fitting clothing

Course description: How will you defend yourself in locations where you cannot legally carry a firearm? You always have your body and you can use it as a weapon, but like any weapon you need quality training to use it effectively. P.A.C.T. is the first level of Personal Assault Combat Training, which will teach you simple, effective, and easy to remember techniques you can use to disengage and get away from your attacker. In this class you will use the techniques taught to defend yourself against the instructor by using verbal challenges and strikes in an attempt to escape. We will also address how you can defend yourself against multiple attackers. This course will help you gain the proper survival mindset and teach you techniques to help you defend yourself by using your body as a weapon! It is also a great course for those that don’t want to carry a firearm or are not old enough, but still want to defend themselves. A parent or legal guardian must accompany anyone under the age of 18.

P.A.C.T. II (Personal Assault Combat Training)

REQUIRED Equipment: * Comfortable loose-fitting clothing
* Athletic shoes
Course description: Take your P.A.C.T. training to the next level! In this class, you will review the simple and effective techniques you learned in P.A.C.T. I. You will begin by practicing punches, strikes, kicks, wrist breaks, and more. Then you will build on the basics by putting those techniques into sequences giving you more skills needed to defend yourself in a confrontation. We will also address ground fighting in case you are ever forced to the ground. You will learn to use speed and momentum to regain control and use your body as a weapon as you attempt to escape. A partner is not required for this class; however, you may choose to bring someone with whom you feel comfortable practicing the ground fighting techniques. Those without a partner can practice with another student or the instructor. You will also learn how to address someone who has a knife or gun. Overall, this class offers you more practice time for all the techniques taught in both P.A.C.T. and P.A.C.T. II!
