Great Compact Bir Bore!

A couple years ago I was in the market for a compact 10mm handgun for backpacking and camping adventures. I read many good reviews of the XDM-Elite and was able to get one an extremely good price. The gun has far exceeded my expectations, being 100% reliable with a variety of ammunition from mild 180 grain ball to "hot" JHP defense rounds and even 200 - 220 grain hard cast. The recoil is very mild considering the size and weight of the handgun. Since the 45 ACP version is the same size and could utilize the same holsters, I began looking for a deal on this model. When I heard Springfield was discontinuing the 45ACP models, I almost gave up. When I found the 45ACP model for $349, I jumped on it. I have not been disappointed. Aside from having a slightly heavier (4.5# vs 4 #) trigger pull compared to the 10mm model, it has been just as reliable and accurate. On my first outing (after a cursory cleaning and lubrication), it ate variety of loads from 185 grain to 230 grain ball, including several HP defense loads. The XDM Elite models are very under-rated. hey may not have the best grip ergonomics or texture, but they handle incredibly well and have a variety of features (ambi controls, loaded chamber indicator, cocked striker indictor, etc.). The sight system may not be the best but the pick-up extremely fast and are a god-send for these 66 year old eyes! I am always amazed how well these compact models mitigate recoil considering their size, barrel length, and weight. The Meta trigger is also very good and gives me no reason to replace them on either model. Aside from adding Talon grips, I run these stock. I suggest that anyone considering a compact 45 ACP or 10mm handgun to give these serious consideration. They may not be the most attractive, but they just work.
