CCI AR Tactical 22 LR 40 Grain Copper RN 300 Rounds

I did a thorough comparison and evaluation of the CCI Tactical 22LR ammo and CCI MiniMag 22LR ammo recently at Range USA in Avon. The ammo physical characteristics are almost identical; both have 40 grain projectiles and both travel at nearly the same velocity of around 1240 fps. The only noticeable difference in them is an ever so slight difference in the projectile shape. The Tactical bullets are just a tick more rounded and slightly bell shaped compared to the MiniMag bullets that have just a slightly more tapered shape. When firing from a bench on a gun rest, the Tactical rounds consistently held a slightly tighter group at the 25 yard distance. The firearm was a Smith and Wesson 15-22 with a 2.5x - 7x Monstrum scope (it's just a .22 :-p). As usual, both versions had solidly crimped bullets, a hallmark of CCI rimfire ammo, and the reason I only by this brand. I'm 67 years old and have used CCI ammo since I was 12. Don't fear the ammo!

I have made about three or four visits to the range to evaluate the CCI Tactical 22LR against the slightly higher priced CCI MiniMag 22LR. I always thought the MiniMag was the top of the line in 22LR at the 1240 fps range of ammo. The two share the same bullet weight of 40 grain and the velocities of them are within about 5 fps or so. The only noticeable difference between the two is the bullet shape. The MiniMag projectiles are slightly more conical in shape. The Tacticle projectiles are slightly more rounded at the nose and have a "bell" shape with a very slight concave shoulder at the base. In side by side shooting tests at my range, at a distance of 25 yards (it's a Shoot Point Blank indoor range), using a Smith and Wesson 15-22 rifle with a low priced CVLife reflexive optic, the Tactical ammo consistently shot slightly tighter five round groups. MiniMags are higher priced, so I was quite surprised. Very nice, consistent ammo. The projectiles are all firmly crimped in the cases and don't wobble or twist, unlike other brands such as Winchester and Remington. Very satisfied!
