The GFY-1 is a short and handy Shotgun in the classic bullpup configuration (action and magazine behind the trigger). Bullpup shotguns accommodate a longer barrel without adding unnecessary length, and allow you to hold the weapon closer to your body. At only 2 inches longer than the Mossberg 590 Shockwave, The 28.5-inch GFY-1 is ideal for the narrow corridors of home defense and tactical use.

This is my first shotgun and my first bullpup, so I went into this wanting something compact for home defense, especially with tight corners and stairs in my house. I didn’t want a long shotgun swinging into walls, and I also wanted stock support since I’ve never shot a shotgun before. That’s why I chose the bullpup layout instead of a traditional pump like the Maverick 88.
Important note: I haven’t shot it yet or taken it to the range. I’ll probably wait until spring since the weather right now isn’t ideal. This review is based strictly on fit, finish, handling, and first impressions.
Pros:
• Very compact and easy to maneuver in tight spaces
• Rear-weighted balance actually makes sense for close quarters
• Comes with a lot out of the box:
• Flip-up iron sights
• Hand stop
• Extra chokes
• Choke wrench
• Magazine feels more durable than expected (better than cheap stamped metal mags I was worried about)
• Cool experience overall — bullpup is different and interesting
Cons:
• Feels lighter and cheaper than expected
• Frame has a plasticky, budget feel
• Dry fire sounds hollow and toy-like
• Trigger feel isn’t great (linkage feel is noticeable)
• Flip sights are manual, not spring-loaded pop-ups (no button — you have to flip them yourself)
• Most of the weight being in the back takes getting used to
• Shorter overall than I expected when I first handled it
Overall:
I don’t hate it — I actually like it — but it definitely feels like a budget bullpup, not something premium or rugged. It works, it’s compact, and it comes with useful accessories, but the materials and feel remind you quickly that this isn’t a duty-grade firearm.
Part of me wishes I went with a Maverick 88 pump after handling more shotguns in the shop, but I don’t regret trying a bullpup first. It makes sense for my house layout, and it’s a solid learning experience. I’ll probably still pick up a pump shotgun later.
Final verdict:
Good for what it is, not perfect, not trash — just honest.
A solid 3/5 for a first bullpup shotgun.
Also I noticed a gooky like smudge on the lower receiver like someone had eaten something and then touched it, some dust buildup on the sling mount and a small rust colored dot on the trigger so I don’t feel like the one I got is brand new from factory maybe someone returned it or took it for I spin before I got it.
