Growing up I used my Mossberg 500 every hunting season. Clay pigeons were a staple outside of that. I came across the Maverick 88 and can say that this is very much inline with the 500, in fact it will accept 500 parts interchangeably! For the money you simply can not beat the price or the brand.
The Maverick 88 is a Mossberg 500 with a few minor differences. The finish on the metal is cheaper and the tang safety has been removed and replaced with a cross button safety located just forward of the trigger. Frankly, you can not find a better shotgun for the money. Not a single one of the imported shotguns on the market today hold a candle to the Maverick 88. The only downside of the 88 is that the pump does tend to get a tad sticky after long strings of fire (50+) that requires the shooter to put in some elbow grease in order to cycle the gun. However this does not occur often and seems to only occur using certain brands of ammo. Im very happy with my Maverick 88
