Great gun for home defense.

This is a reliable, affordable semi-automatic 12 gauge shotgun for personal defense, but you have to keep your promises to it. Like any semi-automatic shotgun functionality is directly proportional to cleanliness. In other words keep it CLEAN, CLEAN, CLEAN, and I mean every nook and cranny. In return it will cycle flawlessly , even with reduced recoil loads. Target loads, "00" buckshot, birdshot, slugs (but not the "shorty" loads). Also keep it well lubricated. I don't mean a bath. Use a good modern technology gun oil that adheres to the action surfaces AFTER you've cleaned it.

Persons unwilling to spend the necessary time maintaining this gun should look for a good pump gun instead, like the Mossberg 590.
