I got this as a backup EDC gun. The safety setup on this gun are redundant and, I think, dangerous. 

If this was just a weekend plinker pistol and you wanted to fuss with all of the steps you have to go through to clear malfunctions, clear the weapon after shooting, and you wanted to use it to teach a beginner about shooting, this might be ideal.

For self defense, the safeties can be a liability. I know there are some videos on YouTube that discuss this and cover some options. I recommend you check those videos out before making a final decision. 

Otherwise, a fun gun

The safety configuration on this gun is redundant and awful. In fact, because of the the way the magazine, slide and slide lock safety works, I feel this is not a safe gun to use for self defense. But for plinking it is wonderful. Due to the type of metal it gun is, do not use high velocity ammunition or cracking of the slide can occur. CCI Standard Velcoity is the best .22LR ammo to use.
